TRAI seeks stakeholders’ views on migration to IP networks
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a consultation paper titled Migration to IP based networks. This comes even as traditional telecom systems are migrating towards more powerful and viable internet protocol based telecom systems. At present, majority of the deployed telecom networks are based on legacy technologies.
The legacy networks will co-exist with IP based network. This will give rise to several operational, interconnection and quality of service issues which will need to be addressed for the successful migration to IP based networks.
In this regard, TRAI has sought views of the stakeholders on IP inter-connection issues, co-existence of legacy network with new networks, requirement of regulatory intervention, interconnection requirement for application and content service providers, quality of service issues among various other operational issues.
Stakeholders are required to submit their views and comments by July 21, 2014 and counter comments by July 28, 2014.
